Preserving Your Gown For Future Generations

A good gown preservation service will guarantee that your gown is treated and packed correctly, insuring its longevity and protecting the heirloom quality of the gown. It is highly recommended that you have your gown preserved professionally within a few weeks or month after the wedding.

Here are some tips when storing your gown:

  • Don’t hang a wedding gown over a prolonged period or it will stretch and sag.
  • Store where temperatures don’t go above 70 degrees or above 40-50 percent humidity.
  • Don’t expose gowns to strong light or open air. Dust, dirt, and sunlight cause deterioration and yellowing.
  • Don’t seal in plastic bags. Plastic attracts moisture but cannot absorb it, thus promoting mildew and fabric rot.
  • Fabric should not touch a cardboard box if it contains acid.
  • Never store your gown in mothballs; fumes can damage some fabrics.
